Mohammed Siraj has been the most reliable pacer for the Indian team in tests recently.

Ace Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has opened up about huge advice from veteran captain MS Dhoni when it came to dealing with criticism and trolling. Siraj claimed that Dhoni informed him that while supporters will cheer him on when he does well, they will be critical when he does not.

The right-arm fast bowler has been in top form for India in test cricket. In the recently-concluded first test between India and the West Indies, Siraj had bowling stats of 4/40 and 3/31 in Ahmedabad. He has been also named in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia.

Mohammed Siraj recounted valuable advice he had received from MS Dhoni during his early days with the Indian squad. Dhoni had told him not to be swayed by other opinions. Siraj said the advice has stuck with him as he continues to face scrutiny in his profession.

“I remember when I joined the India team, MS Dhoni had told me, ‘Kisi ki baaton mein nahin aana. Jab tu acha karega, toh poori duniya tumhare saath rahegi, aur jab kharaab karega, yahi duniya tujhe gaali degi.’ (Don’t pay attention to what others say. When you are performing well, the entire world will be with you, and when you aren’t, they will abuse you,” Siraj said on Indian Express’ Idea Exchange.

Mohammed Siraj reveals that he no longer seeks outside validation

Siraj disclosed that he was first impacted by the harsh criticism and admiration from fans, but he eventually came to embrace the “don’t care” attitude. He underlined that he no longer looks to others for acceptance and that his family’s and teammates’ opinions are what really count.

“People change that quickly? I decided that I don’t need outside opinion and validation. What my teammates and family think of me is important—people who matter. I don’t care what others think,” Siraj further stated.

Mohammed Siraj starred for India with 23 wickets on the recent tour of England, playing all five test matches. He excelled when Jasprit Bumrah played only three games in the series.
