Shubman Gill said that if they keep winning matches, he does not mind losing tosses.

Indian Cricket Team crushed West Indies Cricket Team by an innings and 140 runs in first test of the two-match test series at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 4. After the victory, Indian skipper Shubman Gill said that it was a perfect game for them, where they excelled with their batting, bowling, and fielding.

West Indies skipper Roston Chase won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the decision turned out to be a big mistake as they were all out for just 162 runs in the first innings. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah shared seven wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar also were amongst the wickets.

For India, KL Rahul (100), Dhruv Jurel (125), and Ravindra Jadeja (104*) hammered centuries to post 448/5 before declaring the innings. Gaining a 286-run lead after the first innings, India grabbed an edge over the visitors.

In the second innings, Jadeja clinched a four-wicket haul as the hosts bowled out the visitors for 146 runs, winning the clash by a huge margin. Jadeja was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant job with both bat and ball.

Notably, Gill lost the toss for the sixth consecutive time as a test captain. He said that he does not mind losing tosses if the team continue to win. The Indian skipper also said that it was a perfect victory for them.

“Six losses in a row. But as long as we keep winning the matches it does not matter. This was a perfect game for us, three centurions in the game and we fielded really well, no complaints. Whenever you get a start, both of us got starts and could not convert, plenty of others did and happy for them,” he said.

“When you’ve got quality spinners like them, it’s difficult to be able to rotate, but it’s good to have an option of too many, rather than not having that many options, but always difficult, that’s the challenge, and that’s the fun of playing in India. You know, there will always be someone who will be out there, ready to get the job done for the team. The team is young and they came out with flying colours,” Gill added.

When asked about what he has learnt as a captain so far, Gill said it was pleasing to see how the team overcame tough situations.

“So many things, you know. It’s hard to pin down on one or two things that I learnt, but I think over a period of two years, how we bonded as a team, and how we got ourselves out from tough situations and difficult situations, that was really pleasing for me to see, and we are still a learning side, and I think as long as we keep learning from experiences that we have, I think we’re going to be on the positive side of the match,” he added.

Meanwhile, India lead the two-match series 1-0. The second test between both sides will commence on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
