East Bengal FC part ways with star striker Dimitrios Diamantakos

The ISL club announced the decision earlier today.
East Bengal FC have announced that they have decided to part ways with Dimitrios Diamantakos. The club announced this decision earlier today on their social media handles.
The Greek forward signed for the Red and Gold Brigade ahead of the 2024/25 season.
This decision comes as a surprise to many as Dimitrios Diamantakos was expected to be a key figure in Oscar Bruzon’s plans for the upcoming Indian Super League season.
“Dimitrios Diamantakos and East Bengal FC have decided to part ways by mutual consent. We would like to thank Dimi for his services during his stint with the club,” the club said in their announcement.
Underwhelming stint at East Bengal

Dimitrios Diamantakos’ arrival had sparked celebration among the East Bengal fans because of the record that he had in the Indian Super League.
The Greek striker had signed for Kerala Blasters FC in the 2022/23 season. For the Blasters, he was the talisman in terms of scoring goals. Diamantakos, in his first season, scored 10 goals and provided 3 assists in 20 appearances. He went on to improve his stats in the second season with 13 goals and 3 assists in just 17 matches.
Two astonishing seasons for Kerala made East Bengal chase the striker and land him in Kolkata. The East Bengal were expecting their goalscoring woes to end with Dimitrios Diamantakos’ arrival but it did not turn out to be that way.
The 32-year-old could never find the rhythm in the first few months as injuries plagued his availability. After returning from injury he was not as sharp as he was in the previous seasons. In the 2024/25 ISL season, Diamantakos featured in 19 matches for East Bengal but could only score four goals.
He did have some vital contributions in the AFC Challenge League. The Greek striker scored four goals in five AFC Challenge League matches but that was not enough to impress those deciding the future of the club.
Recent form not enough
After a disappointing first season, Diamantakos was determined to turn things around this season. He had a wonderful start to this season with three goals in four Durand Cup matches. His goals led East Bengal FC to the semi-final of the tournament, eventually crashing out to Diamond Harbour SC.
However, this recent surge in his goalscoring form could not avert the possibility of his departure. Oscar Bruzon might be looking to revitalize the attack with a new signing ahead of the season.
