East Bengal's win record against clubs in ISL

East Bengal have not yet ‘arrived’ in the Indian Super League.
It was one of the seminal moments for the Indian Super League(ISL) when East Bengal FC joined the bandwagon in the 2020-21 season. The club from Kolkata, with a storied legacy, was expected to make an immediate impact since its arrival in India’s new top division.
However, hurdles off the pitch and instability on the pitch have plagued East Bengal’s performances in the Indian Super League. In the five seasons they have been a part of the ISL, East Bengal have finished 9th in four of those seasons, while placing 11th in the remaining one. This blemished record does not justify the pomp and show with which they joined the league.
Their head-to-head record against other ISL clubs would make their fans wonder why they have been so pathetic overall. In this article, we will look at East Bengal’s head-to-head record against each ISL club.

Bengaluru FC (4 wins in 10 games)

East Bengal and Bengaluru FC have shared the stage since I-League days. Whenever the two veteran clubs meet, it always makes for a spectacle. The Torchbearers have had positive results against Bengaluru FC; however, there is still an equilibrium in terms of results.
The Kolkata club has overshadowed its southern rivals on four counts and has conceded in the same quantity. The two have not been able to take the match to its conclusion on two occasions.
NorthEast United FC (4 wins in 10 games)

The Highlanders have also been involved in some thrilling clashes with the Red and Gold Brigade. Over five seasons these two teams have been locked in a battle in ten fixtures. Both have trumped the other four times. These two have fought hard in some nerve-racking encounters. However, the last one between them saw sheer domination from the Highlanders with a 4-0 win.
Jamshedpur FC (4 wins in 10 games)

The Kolkata side has a similar record against Jamshedpur FC. But this contest is evenly matched in terms of wins. Both sides have won four matches each out of the ten matches that they have played against each other. Two have ended with no clear winner.
Hyderabad FC (4 wins in 10 games)

The Red and Gold Brigade have a marginally improved record against Hyderabad FC. East Bengal have edged Hyderabad FC four times in the past. Three have been clinched by Hyderabad FC, whereas the same number of matches have ended in a draw. The Torchbearers earned the lead in the head-to-head following their breakthrough in the last ten minutes in the last meeting between the two sides.
Kerala Blasters FC (3 wins in 10 games)

When clubs from Kolkata and Kerala meet, it is not just a contest between two sides, but two footballing cultures come at loggerheads, producing exciting encounters. Kerala Blasters have the upper hand in this rivalry with five wins to their name.
East Bengal have won three. On two occasions, the contest ended on level terms with teams sharing the spoils, which rarely happens when clubs from Kolkata and Kerala face each other. This fixture has seen tempers flare with red cards being brandished frequently. The Red and Gold Brigade registered their biggest victory against the 9-man Blasters last year with a 4-2 score line.
Chennaiyin FC (2 wins in 10 games)

The Marina Machans have also troubled the Kolkata side, but this fixture has more stalemates than decisive results. East Bengal have had the last laugh in two of the meetings, while three have gone Chennayin FC’s way.
An astonishing five out of ten games between East Bengal and Chennaiyin have ended in a draw. Usually, the fixtures have been close, but the last meeting had a straightforward result in favour of Chennaiyin, who won the match 3-0.
Punjab FC (2 wins in 4 games)

Another new entrant against whom East Bengal boast a positive head-to-head record. Punjab FC earned promotion from the I-League to the ISL before the 2023/24 season. Since then, they have clashed with East Bengal four times, with the latter emerging victorious on two counts. Punjab have one win to their name, whereas the other ended in a goalless draw.
This rivalry has been a goal fest with ten goals scored in four matches. East Bengal have scored seven goals against Punjab FC in the last two fixtures.
Mohammedan SC (1 win in 2 games)

The local rivals have met twice since Mohammedan SC’s promotion to the Indian Super League. The Red and Gold Brigade have a positive record against the Black Panthers with a win and a draw. The last chapter of this rivalry ended on a positive note for East Bengal following a dominating 3-1 win in February this year.
Odisha FC (1 Win in 10 games)

This is supposed to be a rivalry, but the results suggest otherwise. In the ten fixtures between East Bengal and Odisha, the Juggernauts have won seven while drawing two of the remaining three. The last meeting between the two sides ended in a narrow 2-1 victory for Odisha, which they secured after making a comeback.
The only victory for the Kolkata side against Odisha came in January 2024 when Cleiton Silva scored the extra-time winner in the knockouts of the Super Cup.
Mumbai City FC (1 win in 10 games)

From Gaurs, we move on to the Islanders, but there’s no positive change for East Bengal. Mumbai City FC have consistently run away with three points in this contest. East Bengal only have one win in ten matches against the former ISL shield winners.
The Red and Gold Brigade have managed to pull off a stalemate on three occasions against Mumbai, but that would not be enough for them to take pride.
FC Goa (1 win in 10 games)

Another opponent that East Bengal have had a torrid time against. The Gaurs have an incredible record against the Red and Gold Brigade. The defending Super Cup champions have been the dominant force in this encounter.
East Bengal have only managed a solitary win against FC Goa in ten meetings over the last five seasons. The side from Goa has managed to crack the method to tame the Red and Gold Brigade.
Mohun Bagan (0 wins in 10 games)

The toughest pill to swallow for the Torchbearers would be their shambolic performance against their arch-rivals, Mohun Bagan. The clash between the two arch-rivals was supposed to be the marquee fixture when East Bengal entered the ISL. However, the script has not been remotely close.
The Red and Gold Brigade has taken on Mohun Bagan on 10 occasions over the last five seasons in the league, but the Torchbearers have not had a single result to celebrate. This matchup has proven to be an exercise of dominance for Mohun Bagan over their neighbours.
The Mariners have outsmarted their rivals in nine matches, where one has ended in a stalemate. East Bengal would desperately want to start nudging this record in their favour from the next season.
What is the head-to-head record between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan?
These two sides have met each other ten times in the Indian Super League. East Bengal have not won any match whereas Mohun Bagan have emerged victorious on nine occasions.
Against which team does East Bengal have the best head-to-head record?
The Red and Gold Brigade have four wins against Bengaluru FC, NorthEast United FC, and Jamshedpur FC with four wins against each one of them.
