Ex-Jamshedpur FC star drops cryptic hint about his future

Jordan Murray parted ways with Jamshedpur FC

Ex-Jamshedpur FC star striker Jordan Murray dropped a cryptic tweet this morning, which has made fans wonder if he wanted to convey something about his next move.

Murray last played for Jamshedpur FC in the Kalinga Super Cup last season, where he went goalless but assisted once in the four appearances that he made for the club.

Jordan Murray had an underwhelming second stint with the Red Miners last season. Featuring in 29 matches for Jamshedpur across the season, Murray was successful in registering his name on the scoresheet only on seven occasions.

Jordan Murray came to India in 2020 with a lot of fanfare around him. He was signed by Kerala Blasters FC from the Australian club, Central Coast Mariners.

The Aussie centre-forward was a promising young talent in the A-League, prompting Indian clubs to set their sight on him. With 7 goals and 4 assists in 44 appearances for Central Coast Mariners, Murray appeared to be a bright prospect.

The Indian clubs, usually interested in lapping up Australian recruits, were keen on signing him for the 2020-21 season. Kerala Blasters FC won the race and made the Australian put pen to paper. The fans welcomed the signing, which ultimately paid off for them. Jordan Murray scored 7 goals, besides a solitary assist, for KBFC in 19 appearances, putting his name among the best performers for the club that season.

However, Kerala fans could not cherish the presence of Murray at the club for too long as Jamshedpur FC came knocking at the door to sign the center-forward for the next season. To mixed emotions from the fanbase, KBFC let him depart.

Unfortunately, the move to Jamshedpur didn’t turn out to be rewarding for Murray as he could not live up to the expectations. His first stint at the eastern club ended with just 4 goals to his name in 17 appearances. This pushed him to look for opportunities elsewhere, as he landed in the Thai League.

Continuing the streak of underwhelming seasons, the 2022/23 season followed the same script, with the Australian scoring just half a dozen goals in 30 appearances for Nakhonratchasima Mazda FC. Interestingly, this disappointing stint in Thailand did not discourage Indian clubs from reposing faith in him once again, as Chennaiyin FC signed him to bolster their attack.

Murray produced similar returns for the former ISL champions in the 2023/24 season before returning to Khalid Jamil-led Jamshedpur FC last season. But at the end of the last season, the club chose not to renew the contract, leaving the Australian without a club before the next season.

Next Move?

It will be interesting to see how the career trajectory unfolds for Jordan Murray from here. After a few mediocre seasons with multiple clubs, can he instill enough confidence in his suitors to reward him with another contract, which will make him stay in the Indian Super League? Murray’s tweet indicates he has some plans, as he still believes he can tap into his potential and produce more goals.

How many goals did Murray score for Jamshedpur FC?

He scored 7 goals across his two stints with the Red Miners.

Why did Jordan Murray leave Jamshedpur FC?

Jordan Murray’s contract was not renewed by the club after an underwhelming 2024–25 season.
