"This is Khalid Jamil era": Fans hail the newly appointed India coach after historic third-place finish in CAFA Nations Cup 2025

India will play against Singapore in home and away AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers fixtures in October.

The Indian senior men’s national team probables squad of 30 players for the October FIFA International Window was announced by head coach Khalid Jamil, on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

The preparatory camp will begin in Bengaluru on September 20, with the squad reporting to the city a day prior.

The camp is aimed at helping the Blue Tigers prepare for their two AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers Final Round Group C, where they will play two back-to-back matches against Singapore – on October 9, at the National Stadium, Singapore, and on October 14, at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao. The final squad for the matches against Singapore will be selected from the probables.

U23 players called up

After an impressive campaign in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, Khalid Jamil has decided to give a look-in to some of the standout performers from the India U23 team. As many as nine players from the U23 squad have been selected for the probable squad.

This is a massive breakthrough for the youngsters who have proved their mettle in the Indian Super League and recently in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers. The list of probables includes players like Muhammed Suhail, Mohammed Sanan, Bikash Yumnam, Pramveer, Macarton Louis Nickson, among others who grabbed the limelight with their performances in the qualifiers.

Sunil Chhetri back in action

Khalid Jamil announces 30-member probable squad for India camp for AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers against Singapore

After being unavailable for the recently concluded CAFA Nations Cup, India’s legend Sunil Chhetri is back in the mix. Khalid Jamil had earlier stated that he was experimenting and trying out new faces in the CAFA Nations Cup, leading to Chhetri’s absence. However, the newly appointed coach had made it clear that the veteran striker is a part of his plans.

After a disappointing show by the Indian forwards in the CAFA Nations Cup, Chhetri’s return was inevitable. His experience will be crucial for the Blue Tigers in the all-important AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers against Singapore. These are must-win fixtures for India, warranting Sunil Chhetri to find his goalscoring form again in the national colours.

Players from Mohun Bagan SG and FC Goa, who have been shortlisted for the probables squad will be called up later, after their AFC Champions League Two engagements are over.

Apart from these, five players have been kept on standby – two from the U23 men’s national team, and three senior players. Their names will be announced at a later date.
