Born in Calicut, Shahin Lal Meloli started his footballing career with Viva Kerala as a youth player. The 25-year-old, a goalkeeper by trade, went on to play for Pune FC and Bharat FC in the Hero I-League. In 2011, the-then Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean said, "He is one the club should keep an eye on," after his eye-catching performance against the Premier League side in a friendly at the Balewadi Sports Complex. He was also part of the India U-19 side in 2007. He will turn out for Chennaiyin FC in Hero ISL 2017-18.
